Schahet Hotels seeks a dedicated Controller to help them strengthen their accounting department and lead them to continued success. 

The Controller position is responsible for managing property accountants and accounts payable staff to ensure proper and accurate financial reporting for each property and the management company.  The company currently has 9 locations with more under development.  This role is in the office 5 days a week to foster collaboration and team mentorship.

The Controller will:

  • Supervise two direct reports in the accounting department, managing day-to-day cash reconciliations, recording daily and monthly general ledger accounting activity, and also preparing property-level salaried payroll
  • Own and manage relationships with financial and payroll system vendors, serving as the primary point of contact to troubleshoot issues, coordinate resolutions, and ensure systems operate effectively and in compliance, while partnering with Human Resources on payroll, benefit-related processes, and associate lifecycle processes.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to accounting staff, including setting clear expectations, managing workloads, and ensuring accountability for performance and deadlines.
  • Support Hotel General Managers and property teams by ensuring accounting and payroll processes run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Oversee all general ledger activity and all reporting of income, expenses, and accruals 
  • Remit and ensure accuracy of monthly sales and occupancy tax returns
  • Complete month-end journal entries for rent, notes payable or any other “below the line” items not recorded daily by property accountants
  • Schedule and provide requested information for any insurance, worker's comp, sales/occupancy tax, government or any other audits

Ideal Controller candidates have:

  • CPA or Masters degree in Accounting preferred
  • 5 years of experience as a controller or in a similar position helpful
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • Multi-unit/division experience helpful
  • Excellent communication skills to work in the office and also work with managers from multiple locations
  • Excellent organizational skills to timely manage and meet all reporting requirements for each property
