Our client, a successful manufacturing company on the south side of Indianapolis is seeking a tech-savvy Controller to join the team. The ideal candidate will be eager, have a strategic view, and looking for the next step in their career towards a VP of Finance or CFO role.

The Controller role includes all aspects of the company’s financial, human resources, IT development including ERP, and relationships with outside services providers. You will also work alongside the President and as a co-equal with other members of the Management Team on strategy, policy setting, and implementation, problem-solving and decision-making.
Essential Functions:

  • Develop, manage, and establish appropriate business objectives, policies, systems, procedures, and internal controls for accounting, purchasing and information systems operations. 
  • Evaluate and advise on the financial and business impact of long-range plans, new services, strategies, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Effectively manage and respond to requests for the company’s professional relationships with insurance and benefit providers, lenders, tax advisors, attorneys, and others. 
  • Work with other management team members to analyze reports related to their areas of responsibility, improve financial performance and execute short and long-range plans to ensure the financial viability of the company. 
  • Assure the preparation of timely and accurate financial reports, operating data, key indicators, and special reports. 
  • Implement and manage systems required to appropriately approve expenditures, sign checks, invoice charges, monitor cash flow and accounts receivable, and analyze financial results. 
  • Assure timely and accurate filing of income tax, property tax, and other reporting required by regulatory authorities. 
  • Summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position for revenue projections, cash flow management, budget vs. actual, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations for all business units. 
  • Advise management on cost/benefit of capital outlays or other investments, including the timing and potential for return on investment. 
  • Assure corporate income tax compliance and assure the accurate and timely completion of all income tax returns, taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.   
  • Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data. 
  • Supervise, coach, and develop all members of the accounting team. 
  • Minimal travel to the company facility in West Virginia. 

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration. 
  • 5-8 years of accounting and finance experience, including 3-5 years in a supervisory role and at least 5 years as a Controller.
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry 
  • Strong technology skills and understanding of information systems required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to get along well with diverse personalities; tactful, mature and flexible. 
  • Ability to serve as a business executive with strong business acumen. 


  • CPA /MBA or CMA
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics ERP and Solomon Accounting Systems
