Accounting Manager

Our client, Hoosier Hills Credit Union, a rapidly growing financial institution serving South Central Indiana, is seeking a talented and service-oriented Accounting Manager to join their close-knit and seasoned finance team. This is a newly created role, integral to their mission of "making a positive difference in the lives of our members and the communities we serve." You'll report directly to the Controller and play a key role in supporting our continued growth toward the $1 billion asset mark.
As Accounting Manager, you'll oversee the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring financial accuracy and efficiency. You'll coach and develop a small team of accountants, helping them manage their daily responsibilities, including vital activities like ATM cash balancing.

Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Development:
Lead, coach, and develop a small team of 2-4 accountants, providing daily guidance and troubleshooting assistance.
Monitor staff workloads and departmental projects, delegating responsibilities as necessary to keep staff engaged, up-to-date, and effectively cross-trained in the event of absences.
Maintain a research-oriented mindset, troubleshooting with staff to resolve all open items, cash imbalances, and variances.
Foster strong cross-organizational relationships, leveraging them to resolve issues and build a comprehensive knowledge and resource base.
Share ideas for process improvements and communicate effectively to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Daily Accounting Operations:
Oversee daily general ledger (G/L) activities, ensuring completeness and accuracy, and maintaining a deep understanding of G/L data and transaction flow that occurs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
Manage and verify the daily balancing of ATM cash and other related financial processes.
Directly oversee the Accounts Payable (A/P) function, including but not limited to reviewing and posting vendor payments, corporate card expenditures, and expense reports.
Prepare the G/L entries for all Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) activity and oversee the CUSO month-end close.
Oversee the reconciliation of loans sold on the secondary market with servicing retained.
Financial Integrity & Compliance:
Maintain standardized accounting/finance procedures to ensure consistent financial reporting is in accordance with GAAP.
Perform variance analyses to identify trends in expense accounts and maximize profitability.
Performs critical month-end close entries and processes including investments, fixed assets, and depreciation.
Assist with, and feel comfortable navigating, the stress and frenzy of ongoing internal and external audits and regulatory examinations (e.g., financial statement audits, employee benefit plan audits, regulator exams).
Assist in the compilation of monthly, quarterly, and annual regulatory reporting such as the 5300 Call Report and FHLB’s Collateral Reporting.
Assist the Controller and CFO with special projects and strategic planning as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
3-5 years of progressive experience in accounting required, with at least 2+ years of direct supervisory experience leading a team of direct reports highly preferred. Candidates with strong senior-level experience and "quasi-management" responsibilities in highly collaborative environments may also be considered if they demonstrate exceptional cultural fit and leadership potential.
Expert knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
CPA or other relevant designation strongly preferred.
Knowledge of the credit union or banking industry is a strong plus, given the unique aspects of financial services. However, we're open to candidates from outside the industry who possess the right skills and an eagerness to learn our specific operational intricacies.
Proficient using MS Excel and other MS Office products; experience using Fiserv products preferred.
Ability to learn new desktop and cloud-based software and database programs quickly.
Proven ability to balance multiple projects and tasks effectively, meet deadlines, and maintain high attention to detail.
Exceptional relationship builder with peers, management, and vendors, embodying a collaborative and supportive team spirit.
