Vincennes University is seeking a visionary Executive Director of Human Resources to join its leadership team and drive a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusivity across the institution.


Vincennes University (VU) is a premier public institution committed to student success and community impact. As the Executive Director of Human Resources, you will serve as a key advisor to the President and sit on the executive leadership team (cabinet), leading HR strategy and operations across all campuses. This is a high-impact role with responsibility for recruitment, employee relations, policy development, DEI, HR systems, change management, compensation and benefits, and organizational development.

Reporting directly to the President, the Executive Director of Human Resources will lead and empower a dedicated HR team while shaping people-centered programs that align with VU’s mission, vision, and values. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the President and executive leadership on HR matters.
  • Develop and implement data-informed HR strategies aligned with institutional goals.
  • Collaborate with the CFO to design competitive total compensation programs.
  • Champion a positive workplace culture that supports employee engagement and success.
  • Guide the university through change management and organizational development efforts.
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee all HR operations, including talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, and policy development.
  • Partner with legal and IT teams to ensure compliance, data security, and HRIS optimization.
  • Monitor HR metrics and provide insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Manage the HR budget and ensure efficient resource allocation.
Team Leadership & Culture
  • Lead, coach, and develop a collaborative HR team.
  • Foster strong partnerships across departments and campuses.
  • Support initiatives that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Implement effective recognition, engagement, and leadership development programs.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including 5+ years at the senior/executive level.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success leading strategic HR initiatives in complex organizations.
  • Deep understanding of employment laws and HR best practices.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in higher education or public sector environments is a plus.
